Happy Holidays From Your HOA Board!

Holiday greetings from your CCVSHOA Board of Directors! We've had an active and productive year, starting with the Pancake breakfast/community event in Peakview Park in June, which is where we rolled out our plans for the new entrance at Maplewood.

Speaking of the new main entrance...it's done! In a matter of months, we've installed new landscaping, cast metal lettering, revamped the median, installed a new streetlight and added signage at Orchard and Havana! Look for the plantings to take off this spring and fill out the space. CCVSHOA thanks those who have paid their dues and contributed to the entrance donation campaign. We are still accepting donations for this project, so any amount would be appreciated to help us continue efforts to maintain property values with beautification projects. Phase 2 may include improvements to the entrance monumentation at Orchard and Lima and spotlights on the signs, but as in the case of the Maplewood entrance, we cannot do this without your donations. Donations can be made payable to CCVSHOA and sent to: 8547 E. Arapahoe Road, #J503, Greenwood Village, CO 80112. We hope to have PayPal on our website in 2011 to make dues paying and entrance donations easier for our members.

Our second annual Movie in Park at Orchard Park last summer was a success and community members are now looking forward to this event each year as part of our annual calendar. Next year, we intend to partner with the Park and Recreation District and MPM recreation to combine a day event at the pool with the movie night in the park. Look for more to come on this all day summer party!

What else does 2011 hold? We want to hear from you to help prioritize our efforts, so if you have not already; please participate in the poll on our website. Several ideas that we are exploring are: Dumpster Day, Yard of the Month, expanding the Pancake Breakfast to have demos/vendors on home improvement related items, covenant control improvements, and helping to organize neighborhood clubs.

Our next board meeting is January 6, 2011 at 6:30 pm at High Plains Elementary. At this meeting, we will be nominating a new slate of officers, as well as filling vacant board seats. Any residents interested in serving on the Board may submit a letter of interest to CCVSHOA at the address above or email us at ccvistasouthhoa@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and best wishes for a happy, healthy New Year!
Respectfully,

Your 2010 CCVS HOA Board of Directors:

October Entry Project Update

Following the community meeting held on September 29, 2010, CCVSHOA is moving forward with renovating the landscaping and signage at Maplewood and Havana. In the median, the large upright rock will be removed, the drought tolerant grasses will be repositioned and accentuated, and the rest of the hardscape will be updated. Finally, cast metal lettering (similar to that used at the Orchard Gate and Sundance entrances) will be adhered to the brick wall at Orchard and Havana and at Havana and Maplewood.

In order to complete the renovation in accordance with the approved plans, CCVSHOA needs additional contributions to replace the "off kilter," weathered and worn streetlight with a new, updated street light similar to what has been placed at the Orchard Gate entrance. The lowest estimate we received to complete this work was directly from Xcel for $5,000. Please consider donating towards this final design element to make our renovation the best it can be! Please send donations to CCVSHOA at: 8547 E Arapahoe Rd, #J503 Greenwood Village CO 80112. Many thanks to everyone who contributed time and great ideas as shaped this project plan into reality!

Road Maintainence

September Entry Project Update

If you read the September meeting minutes, you'll know that we've successfully secured the support of the Cherry Creek Vista Parks and Recreation District in making our entry revitalization a reality! We have negotiated a partnership with CCVPRD where they have agreed to re-landscape and maintain the corners of  Maplewood and Havana as well as allowed us to mount letters for entry signage to the brick fence at the corners of Maplewood and Havana and Havana and Orchard. All of these agreements are in sync with what CCVPRD has allowed at other surrounding HOAs.

This, coupled with your feedback and our fundraising efforts, has helped shape our project into a well defined effort with a distinct budget. The plan currently includes the following:
  1. Removal of "Hills South" signage at Maplewood and Havana.
  2. Mounting of cast letters to the brick fences at Maplewood and Havana and Havana and Orchard.
  3. Re-landscaping and addition of perennial beds at the Maplewood and Havana corners (under cast lettering) to match the landscape along Havana.
  4. Touch up of the Maplewood median landscape to soften and eliminate some excess rock material.
  5. Placement of anchor in the median at ground level for discrete securing of our A-frame signage.
Optional items (depending on final budget) include the following:
  1. Replacement of "Hills South" signage at Orchard and Lima on existing monument.
  2. Replacement of light pole to a decorative pole at Havana and Maplewood.
One final open community meeting will be held on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH, 7:00 PM AT HIGH PLAINS ELEMENTARY to review the final plans, budget, solicit any final feedback, and request any additional donations. See you there!

July Entrance Project Update

The Board has working hard to make this new project a reality!  The Board initially considered placement of signage at the southeast corner of Havana and Orchard (across from the fire station); however, the County would require a $10,000 fee just for the permit, so the emphasis has been on the main road in at Maplewood and Havana.

Some people have asked why CCVSHOA is pursuing this project, when there are so many other needs in the community such as covenant enforcement or other capital projects (e.g., bathrooms at Peakview Park).  In an effort to improve the appearance of our neighborhood, CCVSHOA determined to present some examples of signage and explore feasibility of the project at its Pancake Breakfast.  Resident response was generally positive, so the Board has continued to pursue information gathering and fundraising for the project.  With regard to other capital projects, the CCV Park and Recreation District and/or Arapahoe County may be the appropriate entity to consult, as CCVSHOA does not have authority for these. Please click on this link to view the project flyer which has been revised to address recent resident feedback.

The preliminary informal polling from the Pancake breakfast and after was to gauge if there was sufficient interest in the project and to get people's feedback on some examples of potential signage. Our next steps will be to continue gathering information on the most cost effective means to do the project, share information and fund raising, potentially as part of an upcoming neighborhood social event. We also plan to hold a neighborhood meeting specifically for the entrance project, so residents can express their desires and concerns before an ultimate decision is made.

Please visit http://www.ccvshoa.com/ for further updates on this great improvement to our community. To those of you who have already contributed and/or volunteered, thank you!  Please spread the word to your neighbors, so they can get a "WE'RE IN!" sign too!!

New Park Planned in Centennial

If you didn't see the article in the newspaper, here it is. Our Parks and Recreation board is already discussing synergies that could provide connectivity from our community to the trail systems...

Centennial, which became a city just nine years ago, is set to build its first park — a $4.7 million project on 11 acres off East Arapahoe Road.
Just west of the current Centennial Civic Center, where city business is conducted, the park will have an amphitheater, a large pavilion and climbing walls.
"It's not just a park," Centennial Mayor Cathy Noon said. "It's a matter of a community building an identity, to have a gathering place where east and west can get together and celebrate."
Centennial residents have parks they can use, but they all belong to other parks and recreation districts.
The city was incorporated when Arapahoe County residents felt the pressure from growing urban areas, such as Greenwood Village.
When voters approved incorporation Sept. 12, 2000, Centennial became Colorado's fifth-largest city.
The new park next to the civic center is being funded mainly by open- space sales-tax revenue the city receives from Arapahoe County.
The land was purchased several years ago for $2.6 million when the city also bought land for the current civic center.
Centennial will soon start accepting construction bids for the park and hopes to have it completed by the fall of 2011, city spokeswoman Sherry Patten said.
Patten said numerous meetings were held, and residents clearly said they wanted a park to call their own.
City officials have moved up the timeline of the park to take advantage of lower construction and materials costs attributed to the down economy.
"We're trying to do this in a first- class way, providing a park that has a number of uses," Patten said.
The park will also have a playground for kids. The main entry will have a plaza built of stone. An overlook platform 15 feet above the plaza will allow for views of Pikes Peak to the south and Longs Peak to the north.
Officials plan to hold concerts, fairs and other community events in the park.
"I think it will be unique and quite a destination," Noon said.
