FAA to Host Meetings on Improved Aircraft Navigation System That Could Reduce Aircraft Noise from Centennial Airport

March 8, 2011 from 5 pm- 8 pm
Denver Marriott South, The Littleton Room
10345 Park Meadow Drive, Littleton

The Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable (CACNR), made up of representatives from 10 cities and counties (Arapahoe and Douglas,) is working on recommendations to the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority on ways to help reduce noise from aircraft at Centennial Airport.

“It has been difficult work to learn the many components which impact the operation of Centennial Airport and the CACNR has made great progress during its short existence,” said Brad Pierce, Aurora City Councilmember and Treasurer of the CACNR.

One issue, which the CACNR has been studying, is Area Navigation (RNAV). RNAV is a method of Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) navigation that allows an aircraft to choose any course within a network of satellites, rather than navigating directly to and from ground-based beacons. This can conserve flight distance, reduce congestion, reduce aircraft noise, and allow flights into airports without beacons.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is in the process of determining RNAV routes for Denver International Airport. Along with Denver International Airport, the FAA is reviewing the entire area including the satellite airports of Centennial and Rocky Mountain Metro Airports.

“One benefit we do know from RNAV is that Centennial Airport planes will fly higher than DIA planes creating less noise than they currently do now,” expressed Karen Blilie, Chair of the CACNR. Currently, Centennial traffic flies under DIA traffic keeping the aircraft lower and nosier over residential neighborhoods.

The FAA will host three public scoping meetings to inform the community about the environmental process for reviewing the potential environmental impacts implementing RNAV procedures and to receive public comment on the environmental review process. A future meeting, after development of the Draft Environmental Assessment, will disclose the potential environmental impacts (if any) of implementing the procedures being developed by the FAA. Scoping comments may be submitted through April 10, 2011. In addition to the meeting for Centennial Airport, the CACNR encourages anyone interested to attend any or all three of the meetings:

Rocky Mountain Metro Airport
March 9, 2011 from 5 pm-8 pm
Airport Terminal, Mount Evans Room
11755 Airport Way, Broomfield

Denver International Airport
March 10, 2011 from 5 pm-8 pm
International Airport Crowned Plaza Hotel
15500 E. 40th Avenue, Denver

The CACNR is currently developing a website designed by Keith Gardner, City of Centennial Councilmember, to keep Centennial Airport area residents informed of the CACNR’s work. As of now, information about the CACNR can be found at http://www.centennialairport.com/.

Community Concerns About Medical Marijuana Growing Facilities

Sorry for the short notice on this...We've recieved quite an education this morning on an issue that few are talking about...the ability to turn a home in Araphoe County into a Marijuana Growing Facility...and many might be appaled to know that the sheriff can't do anything about it under current law.

There is a meeting next week where the county will be hearing concerns to be able to make a recommendation on incorporating new laws around this topic...I wanted to get the word out - so, please spread the word about this meeting - as it appears that usually only proponents for this type of growing effort attend these county meetings - we want to get the other side heard too!

I would suggest that you all go to the Planning Commission Meeting on Feb 1 to express your concerns. The Planning Commission will forward their recommendations to us. The information on the meeting date and time is below. Land Use considerations for Medical Marijuana is the 3rd item on the agenda. This issue is currently scheduled to be before the Board of County Commissioners on March 1.

TO: ARAPAHOE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION
SUBJECT: REGULAR MEETING
DATE AND TIME: February 1, 2011 6:30 pm
PLACE:
Public Works and Development
10730 E. Briarwood Avenue, suite 100 - Arapahoe Room
Centennial, CO 80112

Happy Holidays From Your HOA Board!

Holiday greetings from your CCVSHOA Board of Directors! We've had an active and productive year, starting with the Pancake breakfast/community event in Peakview Park in June, which is where we rolled out our plans for the new entrance at Maplewood.

Speaking of the new main entrance...it's done! In a matter of months, we've installed new landscaping, cast metal lettering, revamped the median, installed a new streetlight and added signage at Orchard and Havana! Look for the plantings to take off this spring and fill out the space. CCVSHOA thanks those who have paid their dues and contributed to the entrance donation campaign. We are still accepting donations for this project, so any amount would be appreciated to help us continue efforts to maintain property values with beautification projects. Phase 2 may include improvements to the entrance monumentation at Orchard and Lima and spotlights on the signs, but as in the case of the Maplewood entrance, we cannot do this without your donations. Donations can be made payable to CCVSHOA and sent to: 8547 E. Arapahoe Road, #J503, Greenwood Village, CO 80112. We hope to have PayPal on our website in 2011 to make dues paying and entrance donations easier for our members.

Our second annual Movie in Park at Orchard Park last summer was a success and community members are now looking forward to this event each year as part of our annual calendar. Next year, we intend to partner with the Park and Recreation District and MPM recreation to combine a day event at the pool with the movie night in the park. Look for more to come on this all day summer party!

What else does 2011 hold? We want to hear from you to help prioritize our efforts, so if you have not already; please participate in the poll on our website. Several ideas that we are exploring are: Dumpster Day, Yard of the Month, expanding the Pancake Breakfast to have demos/vendors on home improvement related items, covenant control improvements, and helping to organize neighborhood clubs.

Our next board meeting is January 6, 2011 at 6:30 pm at High Plains Elementary. At this meeting, we will be nominating a new slate of officers, as well as filling vacant board seats. Any residents interested in serving on the Board may submit a letter of interest to CCVSHOA at the address above or email us at ccvistasouthhoa@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and best wishes for a happy, healthy New Year!
Respectfully,

Your 2010 CCVS HOA Board of Directors:

Holiday Neighborhood Alert!!!

Hi everyone. The holidays are upon us. For many, that means guests are visiting. Please remember to lock your cars in your driveways and on the street. We already have one report of a stolen purse (in an unlocked car sitting in a driveway) this past Saturday night...thanks!
